Train Robbers Hold Off Triggers 4-3

July 18 2016 The Topeka Train Robbers defeated the Trinidad Triggers 4-3 at Central Park, using a three-run third inning to build an advantage they held through the final four innings. Topeka finished with seven hits and two errors, while Trinidad also collected seven hits but played error-free baseball.

Topeka scored once in the second before breaking through in the third. Cody Ellis went 2-for-4 with two runs, while J. Valenzuela-Reece added two hits and a run. Tim Vranau contributed a hit and two RBI, and Tyler Shannon drove in a run. Trinidad answered with two runs in the third and one in the fifth, but could not complete the comeback.

Brian Frazier led Trinidad with two hits, two RBI and a home run, while Nicholas Todero went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Tim Vranau earned the win after allowing two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in three innings. Ty Geary followed with three innings of one-run, two-hit ball and three strikeouts, and Tyler Shannon worked a scoreless seventh. Karl Brice took the loss for Trinidad after giving up four runs on six hits and issuing five walks in three innings.
